Thanks for visiting my site. I’m an assistant professor at the University of North Alabama and a writer of poetry and nonfiction. My latest creative work is my book Of Moose and Me: Animal Tales from an Alaskan Childhood, published spring 2019 by Corpus Callosum Press. You can find an excerpt from the book, as well as links to buy it, by hitting the “Creative Work” link on this site.

My academic specialties include film and TV studies, theatre studies, aesthetics, and the environment.  I’ve published essays on Alfred Hitchcock’s Frenzy, the fusion of the libertine and the nerd in recent comedy and science-fiction films, and a number of essays on the films and TV programs of Joss Whedon, including essays focused on The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Serenity.  I am working on a book on the figure of the libertine, examining visual representations of rakish masculinity from Restoration portraits and plays to contemporary film and TV texts.
